The oceans are becoming acidic as the excess of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is dissolving into these waters forming carbonic acid. As the pH decreases how will this affect the myriad of organisms living there, including corals.
It was thought that corals would be all but gone by the middle of this century but a new study suggests otherwise. Read more about it here!
Should we use this information as vindication to continue to produce record levels of Carbon dioxide by burning of fossil fuels and deforestation? No! but it is a relief to know that future generations might have access to these amazing underwater creatures.
